Late last year, our New Editions imprint of single artist releases relaunched with two albums from #PatternRecognitionMachines and @zacharias_szumer x #rullyshabara. The former was described by @cyclicdefrost as “new weird death jazz”, calling it “a pretty incredible listen - the woodwinds, electronics and drum kit dancing around each other and interweaving in all manner of weird and wonderful ways. It’s slightly demented but oh so satisfying”.

Both releases are available now on the New Weird Australia Bandcamp, free to stream, with a pay-what-you-can support option that sees all contributions delivered to the artists. Link in bio.

Our latest compilation, ‘Fragile States’, features the track ‘The Heathens Who Long For Night, Not To Be Forgotten’ from Puscha @puscha_music_film, an ambient artist and film composer from Narrm. Puscha creates spacious, cinematic, minimalist soundscapes and musical impressions, with wide influence from abstract modernism to kosmiche and world music. Their music explores spatial and psychoacoustic modalities, with the aim of provoking catharsis and deeper listening. Puscha is deeply inspired by the natural world with concerns around preservation and conservation, and draws from personal experiences such as being a part of an anti-whaling campaign in the Southern Ocean, Antarctica as well as contributing to an International Eco-Cultural Tour in Mongolia.

alsi contributed the track ‘When You Touch Me, I See Visions’ on the most recent New Weird AU compilation, ‘Fragile States’. @alsiiiiiiiiiiiiii is a settler sound-maker on Wurundjeri land. Her club-oriented work is unstable music, in which warped, woozy rhythms tumble into noise and disappear into swells of sickening resonance. In her less dance-focused work, she collages chaotic spaces from sounds both incidental and composed, mellow alongside abrasive. Through her practice as a whole, alsi creates hallucinatory, sublime sonic atmospheres. Listen to ‘Fragile States’ via link in bio.
